Alfalfa Micronutrient Guide

Alfalfa has a high requirement for boron and is among the crops that are most likely to suffer from a boron deficiency. Boron is essential for proper cell formation, faster regrowth after cuttings, and improved winter hardiness. There is a small window between nutrient sufficiency and toxicity when it comes to boron, so it’s especially important to consider the 4Rs of Nutrient Stewardship.

Field Insights Issue 13: Boron DDP Increases Alfalfa Yield in California

In 2015, a replicated study was conducted in California to evaluate the performance of Wolf Trax Boron DDP in alfalfa production. Boron DDP applied at 2 lb/ac optimized boron content, which resulted in a trend towards increased dry weight yield of alfalfa. The results of this study encourage further evaluations of the agronomic benefits of Boron DDP in alfalfa production.
