Many producers like to apply boron as a post emergence "top up" to make sure it is not a limit to yield. Recent work conducted by Wolf Trax shows that adding Boron DDP in with your liquid N can be an effective and efficient way of getting boron to your crop.
Trialing was conducted using field scale application equipment in 2009. Boron DDP was mixed into 28-0-0 at rates of 4 ounces or 8 ounces of Boron DDP. The mixture was applied at the two leaf stage of a cereal crop, with the liquid 'dribbled' onto the ground between rows. The soil was a silty clay loam with a pH of 7.4. It was applied using a field scale sprayer in ½ mile strips replicated four times.
What the trial showed
- The Boron DDP began showing up in the crop as soon as 48 hours after application, indicating that Wolf Trax Boron DDP is immediately available when applied this way. Initial levels were 42 percent higher with the 4 ounce rate and 92 percent higher with the 8 ounce rate (See Table below).

- By Week 3 and 4, boron uptake was averaging 50% higher than untreated checks or liquid N alone check.

Conclusion
Wolf Trax Boron DDP proved to be compatible and efficacious when mixed with liquid N. Crops that need Boron can get it from Wolf Trax Boron DDP applied at a rate of 4 to 8 ounces per acre added to their liquid 28-0-0 dribbled on as a side band.
